Beach House

This glamorous house posed a design challenge to achieve a balance between the clients' requests and legal constraints on a small property with a particular pizza slice shape, located at the end of the roundabout of the Villas del Sol development in Playa Chaman de Osa.

Not only did we have to deal with height restrictions and setbacks within the development, but these properties at the back of the development also have a legal setback due to proximity to the adjacent creek, so we had to make the most of every buildable inch.

The client required 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and since the development's restrictions do not allow for two-story houses, we had to accommodate the third bedroom in a loft or mezzanine above the kitchen area.

With the design of this high expectations house, we aimed to create open spaces with a connection to the pool terrace integrated from the social area. The master shower has direct access to the exterior and a skylight that connects to the natural surroundings. Additionally, we aimed for the decoration and color selection to give the user the experience of being in a charming beach house without sacrificing the comforts of American lifestyle in an exotic coastal area in the South of Costa Rica, Playa Chaman, Uvita de Osa. To enhance this sensation and achieve greater organic integration of the house with its surroundings, we included elements such as the curves of the garage gate, which were hand-drawn by Diego Solís himself to simulate the movement of water.

The construction system of this house is supported by a floating concrete slab due to the area's high water table, and the walls have a welded steel frame, with MKS closure panels from Sur. These panels have a core of high-density expanded polypropylene onto which a 3cm layer of structural micro-concrete is projected on both faces, achieving a perfect balance between a lightweight, earthquake-resistant system with high thermal and acoustic insulation efficiency, with the monolithic appearance of a concrete block house.
